Veterans Day invites us to honor those risking their lives in the ongoing “war on terror.” Yet tragically many soldiers like SPC Cory Thomas survive combat only to find themselves abandoned by those who led them into war.

Sgt. Abe was created in 2007 by Director Chuck Fager and intern John Stephens. The character, Sgt. Abe, is overlaid onto an actual DD Form 4 Enlistment/Reenlistment agreement. Sgt. Abe points out discrepancies and points of fact that individuals should be aware of before they enlist. The image has been modernized (2014) to better appeal to high school principals and others targeted for dissemination of this counter-recuriting pamphlet.

John Kiriakou joined the CIA out of a sense of patriotism and a desire to give back as instilled by his immigrant grand parents. Never did he expect that joining the chorus of people and organizations exposing the CIA's torture and extraordinary ren-ditions would lead to his being imprisoned, losing his pension, his career, financial ruin and indebtedness for nearly one million in legal defense bills.
